Mercedes AMG C63 Coupe

Mercedes AMG C63 Coupe 2016

Information on the new Mercedes-AMG C 63 Coupé was released this week, and it doesn’t look too bad 😉

The expressive exterior design differs significantly from the Mercedes-Benz model, which shares merely the same doors, roof and boot lid. The powerful 8-cylinder engine, together with the increased track width on the front and rear axles, calls for a redesigned front end and a model-specific rear assembly as well as new side walls. The flared wheel arches make the AMG Coupé 64 millimetres wider at the front and 66 millimetres wider at the rear, enabling the vehicle to hug the road better.

The larger wheel arches allow the use of wider tyres (up to 255 millimetres on the front axle and up to 285 millimetres on the rear axle), contributing to improved lateral acceleration, traction and agility. Under the outer skin, the body structure has been reinforced in key areas to transfer and compensate the extreme longitudinal and lateral forces from the powertrain and suspension. There is also the model-specific rear axle carrier.

The 60-millimetre-longer aluminium bonnet is adorned by two distinctive powerdomes, which are among the typical distinguishing features and underscore the muscular appearance. The extremely wide front section is characterised by large air inlets and precisely positioned flics. The low, arrow-shaped “twin blade” radiator grille with AMG lettering visually lowers the vehicle’s centre of gravity. The typical AMG “A-wing” front spoiler is three-dimensional, also serving as an air deflector for the three cooling air inlets. Additional flics ensure an optimal flow of air to the cooling modules. And a front splitter at the bottom of the front apron helps to reduce front-axle lift.

Skoda named most dependable car brand

Skoda Yeti

In things you’d never think you’d see in your lifetime, that headline is definitely up there. The Czech company that’s been around for over 100 years churning out bicycles, motorbikes and then cars was not producing anything that anyone wanted to drive when I was a kid – crappy little cars that ran a “who’s worst” competition with that Russian Lada down the road. Since then (and a very influencial purchase by the VW group) they’ve gone only upwards, selling high quality cars that are still on the lower priced scale of things. So, if you ever think something isn’t possible, think again – if Skoda can do a complete turnaround, anyone can.

BMW 3.0 CSL HOMMAGE R

BMW 3.0 CLS Hommage

The BMW Group has come up with something very special this year with the world premiere of the BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage R – a car that celebrates both the 40th anniversary of BMW in North America and the heady racing success of the BMW 3.0 CSL in 1975.

I was going to write a load of random stuff about how this car was made, and the various design items used in development and construction, but sod that – just enjoy the pics 😉

Lamborghini Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce Roadster

It’s good to see that Lamborghini are keeping the names of their new models short and catchy….

‘‘The Superveloce is the purest, most sports-oriented and fastest series production Lamborghini ever. The Roadster version represents our commitment to satisfying our passionate clients with immensely emotional driving dynamics combined with an extraordinary open air experience,’’ Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini said.

As a member of Lamborghini’s storied Superveloce family, the car offers greater performance with a power increase of 50 hp to 750 hp and a dry weight of 1,575 kg (3,472 lb), that is 50 kg (110 lbs) lighter compared to the Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster. This leads to an exceptional power-to-weight ratio of just 2,1 kg/hp (4,6 lb/hp).

The Roadster maintains the coupe’s breathtaking acceleration, sheer power and handling prowess. In an enhancement to the Superveloce coupé experience, the Superveloce Roadster’s features a power rear window that allows the free-flowing engine sound to fill the cabin with invigorating tones and harmonics during spirited driving.

The naturally aspirated, 6.5-liter V12 produces 552 kW (750 hp) at 8,400 rpm and 690 Nm (509 lb-ft) of torque. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) happens in 2.9 seconds with a top speed of more than 350 km/h (> 217 mph).

Lamborghini’s highly innovative 7-speed ISR transmission delivers an incomparably emotional gear shift and transfers the engine’s power to all four wheels through a Haldex Generation IV 4WD system. Of course, as in the SV coupé the car takes advantage of adaptive Magneto Rheological Suspension, a pushrod damping system and Lamborghini Dynamic Steering (LDS) for improved driving dynamics

And as with the Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster, the SV Rodster comes with a two-piece hardtop made from carbon fiber featuring technologies such as RTM and Forged Composite®, which deliver a perfect surface finish, allow complex design shapes and the highest possible component stiffness combined with extremely low weight. Thus, the two roof parts each weigh less than six kilograms (13.2 lb) and can be stowed easily in the luggage compartment. They provide the perfect complement to the monocoque, which is entirely made from carbon fiber.

Ford Mountune Kits for Focus ST now available in the US

They’ve been a pretty popular add on back home in England for a while – factory guaranteed performance kits for various fast Fords – but up until now I don’t think they’ve been readily available. That changed today with the release of the Performance Pack from Ford available here.

For $1900 you get:

  • Mountune induction kit
  • Mountune high-flow intercooler
  • Mountune mTune handset
  • All installation hardware

and of course, a handy increase of 23 bhp (now up to 275) and 26 lb-ft of torque (now up to 296!).

The heart of the system is a performance ECU calibrated to deliver a more aggressive engine mapping program, including a quicker throttle response, without compromising durability. When the parts installation and tuning is performed by an authorized Ford Performance technician, Focus ST retains its factory warranty – a huge benefit for any customer looking to get the most out of the ownership experience.

No I need to spend some time hunting around to see if they’ve also released the Fiesta version too…..

BMW M4 GTS

BMW M4 GTS 2016

Still a concept at this stage, but OMFG this thing looks nice. Following on from the previous special edition track focused versions (GTS, E46 M3 CSL, E30 M3 EVO etc), BMW has released a “concept” for the Monterey Car Week and it’s pretty spectacular. And in the best news since NBC’s renewal of their Premier League contract, IT WILL BE AVAILABLE TO BUY IN THE US!!!!!!!!!!!

“While the BMW M4 Coupe embodies the ideal combination of motor sport genes and unrestricted everyday usability, the BMW Concept M4 GTS previews an emotionally powerful and exclusive special model conceived with an eye for trailblazing technology and a keen focus on the race track,” explains Frank van Meel, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW M GmbH. “Despite its outstanding track ability, it is still fully road-legal. This is racing technology for the road in the truest sense.”

M4 GTS rear

The BMW Concept M4 GTS builds on the BMW M4 Coupe’s dynamic and emotional use of forms. Yet its character as a high-performance special model, in which every detail has been developed to fulfil its purpose as a successful track machine, also comes immediately to the fore. The manually adjustable front splitter and rear wing – both in exposed carbon – ensure perfect aerodynamic balance on the race tracks and on the road. Another example of the engineers’ rigorous adherence to lightweight design is the CFRP (carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic) hood which lowers the car’s weight and center of gravity. A wide front air intake optimizes airflow and minimizes front axle lift.

M4 GTS Splitter

The dynamic and exclusive presence of the BMW Concept M4 GTS is accentuated by the exterior paint shade Frozen Dark Grey metallic, with the Acid Orange accent on the front splitter creating an effective contrast. The lightweight, forged and polished light-alloy wheels in 666 M styling also feature an Acid Orange accent. The 9.5 J x 19 (front) and 10.5 J x 20 (rear) wheels are fitted with Michelin Sport Cup 2 tires (265/35 R19 at the front, 285/30 R20 at the rear). The mixed-size tires provide the ideal conduit for the stand-out dynamic attributes of the BMW Concept M4 GTS.

The engine powering the BMW Concept M4 GTS is equipped with the same innovative water injection system that has endowed the BMW M4 MotoGP Safety Car with a noticeable increase in output and torque.

Cobra Daytona Coupe – 50th Anniversary

Cobra Daytona Coupe

Back in 1964, the Cobra was all dominant – except at such high-speed European circuits as Le Mans. Carroll Shelby duly tasked designer Peter Brock with penning a sleeker body and the resulting Cobra Daytona Coupes beat Ferrari to the 1965 FIA Sports Car Championship. Only six cars were constructed in period, which will be assembled for the first time ever at the upcoming Goodwood Revival meeting, September 11-13. Unsurprisingly, these Shelby masterpieces very rarely come to market and, when they do, they fetch a fortune – the last one to sell fetched a cool $7.25million.
