Continuing the runaway success of Lotus’ return to North America, the legendary British Sportscar maker has unveiled a unique Evora Sport 410 in one of the company’s most famous liveries, as order books open for the sensational sports car in the US and Canada.

Available in the new GP Edition colour scheme, as well as Lotus’ standard array of paint options, the new Lotus Evora Sport 410 for North America is the lightest and most focused iteration of the Evora, and joins the benchmark Evora 400 in the company’s line-up as a fully type approved model. The New 2017 BMW 5-Series

2017 BMW 5 Series

Before you go any further, I have to warn you. This post will be long. BMW released a whole bunch of details about their upcoming 5-series and so I thought I may as well post it all and you can decide for yourself which bits you care about, and which ones you don’t. The bit I really care about won’t be there (yet) – namely, what’s it like to drive, is the steering completely devoid of all feel like the last version, and has BMW seen the error of their recent ways and gone back to pushing out sporty luxurious cars, rather than just luxurious cars? Anyway, without further ado……

The formula for success continues with the 7th generation of the most successful premium sedan, the all-new BMW 5 Series.  Over 7.6 million BMW 5 Series have been sold worldwide since 1972 and since 1975 over 1 million units in the U.S. alone. The 2017 BMW 5 Series has been entirely newly developed allowing for a significant weight loss of up to 137 lbs with the use of magnesium, aluminum and high-strength steel. Thanks to the available state of the art chassis systems including Integral Active Steering now combinable with xDrive (BMW’s intelligent all-wheel drive system), Driver and Parking Assistance Systems and Adaptive Mode including Dynamic Damper Control, the all-new BMW 5 Series once more defines the athletic and executive design of a true sport sedan. Featuring a new user interface (iDrive 6.0), Gesture Control, the latest generation of Head-Up Display, Remote 3D View and an improved Voice Control with natural voice input, the 2017 BMW 5 Series marks a new era of personalized connectivity. The BMW 5 Series is the most innovative BMW 5 Series to date, combining unique driving dynamics using Remote Control Parking and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems clearing the way towards semi-automated driving.

The all-new BMW 5 Series will be available at U.S. dealers in February 2017. Pricing will be announced closer to market launch.

McLaren 570GT by MSO

Supposedly this is a “concept” but expect to see most, if not all, of the new features available on your 570 options list sometime soon. Although it has nothing to do with performance, I’m kind of excited to see the Electro-Chromic roof in action – the future is definitely here boys and girls.

McLaren 570 GT MSO

McLaren Automotive has released details of the new McLaren 570GT by MSO Concept ahead of its debut on the famed 18th fairway of Pebble Beach golf course at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, the world’s highest-profile competitive display of collector’s cars.  The McLaren 570GT by MSO Concept will be displayed on the concept lawn where previously McLaren has displayed many of its concept and future models, not least the McLaren P1TM.

The McLaren 570GT by MSO Concept further accentuates the McLaren interpretation of a GT car.  Previewing a collection of enhancements created by McLaren’s bespoke division MSO which was itself launched at Pebble Beach in 2012, the car is the first example of the recently-introduced 570GT to receive the attention of McLaren’s finest team of craftsmen and designers.  They have added styling, feature and material enhancements such as an Electro-Chromic Roof that are all destined to become available through the MSO Defined portfolio.

Firstly, the McLaren 570GT by MSO Concept delivers an improved aural experience both for the driver and onlookers thanks to its new MSO Exhaust system. Manufactured from titanium and consequently 30% lighter than the standard stainless steel system, the MSO Exhaust takes learnings from the McLaren 675LT project, delivering a progressively richer and more characterful tone more immediately as the revs rise than the standard exhaust.  The MSO Exhaust’s heat shields are also finished in a golden titanium nitride tint, visible through the rear air ducts, which naturally change colour to a blue/purple as the system heats and cools through its cycle.

Aston Martin and Red Bull – the next (and best?) hypercar??

OMG – want one!

Aston Marin Red Bull AM-RB 001

  • Revolutionary AM-RB 001 hypercar the result of technical partnership between Aston Martin and Red Bull Racing
  • Powered by a new, high-revving naturally aspirated V12 engine
  • Mid-engined, two-seats, lightweight construction, 1:1 power-to-weight ratio
  • Road and track-only versions to be available

5 July 2016, Gaydon, England: Aston Martin and Red Bull Racing are today revealing their ground-breaking hypercar; codenamed AM-RB 001.

The product of a unique Innovation Partnership between the British luxury brand and eminent F1TM team, this ambitious, uncompromising and wholly extraordinary collaboration combines the vision and skills of two world-leading brands to create a road car the like of which has never been seen before.

The three men charged with realising this shared vision are Adrian Newey, Red Bull Racing’s Chief Technical Officer and the world’s most successful F1TM designer, Marek Reichman, Aston Martin EVP and Chief Creative Officer and David King, VP and Chief Special Operations Officer. Together they spearhead a formidable alliance. One that combines more than a hundred years of specialism – both with heritage, making some of the world’s most beautiful and charismatic GT cars, and with technological brilliance and relentless pursuit of speed and efficiency that has seen Red Bull Racing excel in the ferociously competitive world of Formula One.

Reichman and Newey are working closely on all aspects of the project, striving to ensure the AM-RB 001 is an unprecedented fusion of form and function: a car engineered to be entirely useable and enjoyable as a road car, but with the capability to perform like no road car before it on a race track. For those who crave an even more intensely focused driving experience, a track-only AM-RB 001 is also in development, the projected performance of which is in line with that of today’s LMP1 Le Mans sports prototypes.

Drifting the safety car

LeMans has had some pretty rough weather this week in the run up to the race, so what better way to take advantage than to get the safety car on the track for a little drifting. Glad it’s considered “safe”

VW Gold GTi Clubsport S

What do you do if you’re a company who’s tormented by a diesel scandal that is impacting your future viabiliy? Build a nice, fast distracting hot hatch of course, specifically tuned to beat all previous from-wheel’d times around the ‘ring. And here it is, and it’s a fantastic thing, but I don’t think you can buy one in the US (haven’t confirmed that yet, but working on it). All the details are below – enjoy!

The Golf GTI Clubsport S is the most powerful ever version of the Golf GTI and was built to celebrate 40 years of the iconic hot hatchback. With German racing driver Benny Leuchter (28) at the wheel, the car has just smashed the existing lap record for front-wheel-drive production cars on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, with a time of 7 minutes, 49.21 seconds.

This exclusive new vehicle, based on the Golf GTI Clubsport, makes its world premiere at the GTI event at Lake Wörthersee (4-7 May). The hard performance numbers of this new GTI are truly impressive: a power output of 228 kW/310 PS; 280 pound-feet of torque between 1,700 and 5.300 rpm; 0 to 62 mph acceleration in 5.8 seconds; a top speed of 162 mph; and an unladen weight (including the driver and luggage) that has been reduced to 2,998 pounds. But the raw figures don’t tell the whole story, as the record lap time around the Nordschleife demonstrates how fast this car actually is.

TVR Is Back! (at least to a motor show)

TVR1

The re-born British sports car maker, TVR, has announced that it will have a presence at the London Motor Show, to take place in Battersea Park on 5 to 8 May, 2016.

The company has attracted world-wide interest since announcing the all-new British designed and built sports car. Incorporating Gordon Murray’s innovative iStream® technology, the car will be launched in 2017.

This exciting new sports car features a ground-effect, super lightweight iStream® carbon reinforced chassis and will be powered by an exceptional V8 engine developed by Cosworth. The London Motor Show provides an opportunity for the public to appreciate the silhouette and see the physical shape in a full-size representation of the new car. The full exterior design will be unveiled to all customers who placed an order at an exclusive preview event later this year, which will be an important milestone in the programme.

Les Edgar, Chairman of TVR said: “We have built enormous momentum over the past 12 months, to the point at which we now hold more than 350 deposits from enthusiastic individuals who are keen to be proud owners and drivers of the new TVR. Our appearance at the London Motor Show will be a perfect platform for us to show a physical representation of the car and we hope to use the opportunity to tantalise the public and provide a strong indication of the look of the production vehicle. It’s an important next step in bringing the new car to market.”

Aston Martin DB10 – Nice price if you can afford it

Aston Martin DB10 Front Three Quarter low res-2

The highly coveted and incredibly rare Aston Martin DB10 made for the latest James Bond film, Spectre, went under the auctioneer’s gavel at Christie’s in London tonight.  The bidding was tense and exciting before a final bid of an amazing £2,434,500.

The buyer now owns a true piece of automotive history; the only Aston Martin DB10 to be made available for public sale. Celebrating the great British brand’s half century with Bond, which started with the iconic DB5, the DB10 gives a glimpse of the future design direction for the next generation of Aston Martins. Production of the DB10 was strictly limited to 10 models of the bespoke sports car which was developed and hand-built by the designers, engineers and artisan craftspeople at Aston Martin’s Gaydon headquarters in the UK for the latest Bond film, Spectre.

Aston DB10 Sale

Eight of the DB10’s were modified for filming, but two of those produced were kept back as show cars for display purposes only and the DB10 auctioned is one of them.

The money raised by the auction of the Aston Martin DB10 will benefit Médecins Sans Frontières.  MSF – or ‘Doctors without Borders’ – is a global humanitarian aid organisation that provides medical care and support to victims of armed conflict, epidemics and other disasters.

Aston Martin CEO Dr Andy Palmer. “The DB10 is one of the rarest cars ever created. Only 10 will ever be made and this is the only one that will be made available for sale. It’s great to see this DB10 raising vital funds for Médecins Sans Frontières, it is a fantastic charity that we are delighted to support”.
