2018 Audi S4 Details

2018 Audi S4

It looks like it’s not manual, but I’m getting to the realization that maybe I’m too old for new cars and I just need to accept the onslaught of the two peddle machine. Maybe. Anyway, I still like this, although whether it would win my dollars over a similarly priced M2 is another matter (or the extra 10k for an M3 even).

  • Offering the quickness and competence expected from Audi S models, the all-new S4 achieves a class-leading 0-60 mph of 4.4 seconds
  • Providing more horsepower and torque, the S4’s all-new 3.0-liter TFSI® V6 produces 354 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque
  • Representing a balance of daily driving performance, dynamic design and benchmark technologies, the 2018 Audi S4 will go on sale Spring 2017

With enhanced performance and benchmark technologies, combined with a more dynamic design, the all-new 2018 Audi S4 offers customers versatility, with seating for up to four and the quickness and competence that is expected from Audi S models.

Lamborghini Snow Driving

Huracan Winter AccademiaSo what could be better than a day blasting around in a new Lamborghini with a bit of expert tuition? Well, how about a day blasting around in a new Lamborghini in the snow? Lamborghini have just announced it’s first every US based winter driving school – the 2015 Winter Accademia at Aspen/Snowmass will provide driving enthusiasts and brand aficionados an opportunity to push exclusive Lamborghini cars and themselves to the limit.

Aventador Winter Accademia

For those who crave the opportunity (and have the $6k to fund this very fine weekend), the Lamborghini Winter Accademia program, which takes place February 5-7 and 6-8, 2015 in Aspen/Snowmass, Colorado, will allow enthusiasts to experience the all-wheel-drive supremacy of the Aventador LP 700-4 as well as the Huracán LP 610-4 on ice and snow.

Jaguar F-Type – Available in 4-wheel drive soon

286422_ftype-awd_carJust in case you lived in somewhere like say Colorado, and weren’t quite sure all that nice, noisy power was appropriate for our winter months, Jaguar has kindly helped address your concerns with the announcement of a shiny new 4-wheel drive version.

“Our target with engineering the all-wheel-drive F-TYPE was to maintain the engaging rear-drive character that’s so important to Jaguar sports cars, yet offer even greater dynamic capability.” – Ian Hoban, Vehicle Line Director, Jaguar

Subaru WRX Concept

Subaru WRC Concept 1Subaru finally showed a bit of life for the WRX and wheeled out this fantastic looking concept at this weeks New York Motor Show. No word on whether or not it will be built yet, but I’m definitely hoping a production version is on the cards. More photos below.

Range Rover Sport Official Release

107934_LR_Range_Rover_Sport_Dynamic_25_lead_imageAfter the early release courtesy of the (now world famous) window tinter, the official launch happened last night with lots of juicy details, plenty of pics and a live drive by James Bond (maybe the Aston’s just aren’t cutting it for him now).

108135_LR_Range_Rover_Sport_Studio_04

So, what do we now know? As predicted, a whole bunch of weight has been shaved off (over 4oo kg which I think is a tonne in real money), which in turn should improve the handling and fuel efficiency of the car (we get about 15 mpg or so from our current model – it’s not what I’d consider frugal). It’s actually now based on the bigger Range Rover, rather than the previous version which was technically built on top of the underpinnings of the LR3.

Big on the parent front is the (optional) extra couple of seats in the back – mainly for the kids from the looks of it, but can make the difference between having the grandparents with you, or leaving them on the side of the road 😉

The base 5.0 liter V8 engine has gone, replaced by the (very highly praised in other cars) 3.0 Supercharged V6, but the supercharged V8 remains, still pushing out 510 bhp. Stop/start tech is now included, as is the 8-speed automatic from it’s big brother.

So, improved significantly in a number of important ways (or should that be weighs), pretty much the same price as before (think there is planned a $1,000 or so increase) and it’s available towards the end of the year. Tempting, very very tempting….

New Range Rover Sport to be announced

Range Rover Sport Teaser

Hot on the heels of the full size version being released onto the world, Land Rover are sending out teasers for the upcoming launch of the all new Range Rover Sport, which will be released upon the world on March 26th. You can sign up for the live stream hereif you’re keen. I’m guessing there’ll be a whole host of weight savings going on with a new all aluminium frame, along with the same (and fantastic) V8 engines for the US, and if you’re lucky, the brand new 9 speed automatic that was just announced for it’s big brother. But what do I know? Guess we’ll see.

Mercedes E63 AMG – the details

So I had posted a post or two in recent weeks with some of the info on the new E63 AMG as it was filtered out, but the nice people over at Mercedes released a whole bunch of info on this model, so here’s a few more details (and pictures of course).

2014 E63 AMG S-Model 4MATIC Wagon

First off the big news for the folks who live here in Colorado (and I’m guessing a few other places around the world) – 4-wheel drive is confirmed, and is standard equipment, although you can still order a 2-wheel version of that’s what floats your boat (and you have a relatively unlimited tire budget if you like to switch off the traction control). It’s available in wagon and sedan versions, and both are coming to the US (which I didn’t realize until the other day is true of the current version too).

2014 E63 AMG 4MATIC Sedan & Wagon

Now some of the fun stuff – “standard” power and torques are 550 and 531, but if that just doesn’t seem quite enough for you, there’s the S version with 577bhp and 590 lb-ft of torque. This is achieved through changes to the engine management system, and increasing the boost from 13 to 14.5 psi. Thats’s going to get your 0-60 time to somewhere between 3.5 and 3.6 seconds (sedan vs wagon due to the slight weight difference I’m guessing), and given you’re using an automatic gearbox and 4-wheel drive, you won’t need to be Lewis Hamilton to achieve something close to that at every traffic light….

2014 E63 AMG S-Model 4MATIC Wagon

Two other advantages of the S pack are the higher top speed – it’s still electronically limited, but you can hit 186 mph on the Autobahn (and of course, who wouldn’t want to select the European delivery option on something like this), and it includes a limited slip diff to make the drifting a little more controllable (and the track time a little more fun).

2014 E63 AMG S-Model 4MATIC Wagon

In case the use of 4-wheel drive gives images of lots (and lots) of crappy understeer at every turn, Mercedes are reassuring everyone who will listen that this is a sports based 4-wheel drive system designed for more traction but not at the expense of handling. Torque is split 33% front, 67% rear and the 3 stage ESP is tailored specifically for the 4-wheel drive chassis.

Release is planned for the summer of 2013, and although there’s no price information yet, after a quick play with the configurator of the current model on the Mercedes site, expect the final number you’re handing over to be in the 6 figure range. But, for the true car that can do everything, it might just be worth every penny. I’m off to count my pennies now to see how many more I’m going to need before I can get one of these things.

(One note – the nice people at Mercedes included the high res pictures for me to download with their press release, so you can click through and download the pics at their full resolution if you fancy)

Audi SQ5 – Coming to America

AudiSQ5

If you’re one of those peeps that like their fastness a little on the large side (or just have kids and boat load of crap to carry around with you everywhere), Audi is trying to help with the release of the SQ5 (and try saying that after 4 pints of Strongbow). Using the engine that seems to be in every sporty vehicle Audi launch these days, the V6 3 liter with supercharger, and pushing out 354 bhp in this trim, it’ll propel you away from the traffic lights to 60 mph in just 5.3 secs. Release is going to be sometime this year, and the price hasn’t been released yet, but you get what you pay for these days (which for Audi means included for free is the gorgeous interior). Full press release is available from Audi here if you want more details.

2014 Mercedes E63 AMG – 4 Wheel Drive Confirmed

And lots of other information on this great interview/drive along from Car and Driver

New Audi S3 with 300 BHP

Lots of new concepts and cars are coming out of the Paris Motor Show this week. This one, the S3 from Audi, sports a 5.1 second 0-60 and hits the limiter at 155mph. It looks like this one will make the trip across the water to the US (but maybe in 5 door form only?), and could be the perfect runabout here in Colorado, with the usual quattro drivetrain with a slight front wheel bias. Of course, there’s always the chance that Audi might really up the ante and release the new (yet to be announced or released) 400bhp RS3 over here. Now that could be a lot of fun.
