2018 Audi S4 Details

2018 Audi S4

It looks like it’s not manual, but I’m getting to the realization that maybe I’m too old for new cars and I just need to accept the onslaught of the two peddle machine. Maybe. Anyway, I still like this, although whether it would win my dollars over a similarly priced M2 is another matter (or the extra 10k for an M3 even).

  • Offering the quickness and competence expected from Audi S models, the all-new S4 achieves a class-leading 0-60 mph of 4.4 seconds
  • Providing more horsepower and torque, the S4’s all-new 3.0-liter TFSI® V6 produces 354 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque
  • Representing a balance of daily driving performance, dynamic design and benchmark technologies, the 2018 Audi S4 will go on sale Spring 2017

With enhanced performance and benchmark technologies, combined with a more dynamic design, the all-new 2018 Audi S4 offers customers versatility, with seating for up to four and the quickness and competence that is expected from Audi S models.

Audi A8 L 4.0 Sport

2016 Audi A8 4.0 Turbo Sport

That’s a big title for a big car (but one of my favorite big cars). Audi announced this week their twin turbo sport model of the top of the line A8 with an improved 450 bhp and a bump of other good stuff listed below, for the “bargain” price of just $90k. Ever since Ronin I’ve been a huge fan of the Audi big car, and I think one day when I get rich I might own an S8 as my family car/daily driver (unless the nice Audi people send over the RS6 wagon to this side of the pond). Anyway, enough of the chatter – here’s the full details.

Featuring more power and enhanced luxury inside and out, the Audi A8 L 4.0T Sport model enters the Audi lineup for 2016. The variant of the Audi A8 flagship sedan boasts an enhanced 4.0T twin turbo V8 engine achieving an impressive 450 hp, an increase of 15 hp from the previous 4.0T model. The Sport model also includes a muscular front fascia with larger air intakes for a more commanding presence on the road.

Audi TT Clubsport

2015-audi-TT-clubsport-turbo-concept-1

Showcasing some of Audi’s latest technology (which they’re deeming close to production ready), they this week unveiled the Audi TT Clubsport. Sporting a wide body stance, upgraded engine and a fair bit of lightening, it looks little on the spectacular side.

2015-audi-tt-clubsport-turbo-concept-2

The Audi TT clubsport turbo has a power-boosted 2.5 TFSI engine with 600 hp of power and 479 lb-ft of torque, the latter from 3,000 to 7,000 rpm, combined with an electric compressor to fill in the low/laggy turbo part of the rev-band. This power is transferred via a manual six-speed transmission.

337627_news-2015-audi-tt-clubsport-turbo-concept-5

The compact sports car takes a full stance on the road with track widths of 1,736 mm (68.3 in) in front and 1,729 mm (68.1 in) at the rear. The car is 4.33 meters (14.2 ft) long and 1.97 meters (6.5 ft) wide, including the side mirrors – 14 cm (5.5 in) wider than the technical platform upon which it was based. Its angular fenders contribute a separate additive shape to the car body. They take the characteristic design motif of the Audi TT* to an extreme and accentuate the distribution of engine power to all four wheels – the quattro drive. The fenders of the show car – painted in the exterior color Ferro Titanium – are open at the front and rear. Air from the car’s slipstream flows through them to cool the brakes. The Singleframe grille and large air inlets – whose vertical fins form a continuation to the light signature of the Matrix LED headlights – are also optimized for maximum air throughput.

The manually adjustable rear wing is an advanced development of the Audi Sport TT Cup with which the brand very recently launched a dedicated race series. It is now 20 cm (7.9 in) wider, and the side flaps, which feature the four rings, were given a new geometry. The wing consists of carbon-fiber reinforced polymer (CFRF) as do all other add-on parts: the air inlets and the large splitter at the front, the side panels and side sill trims as well as the voluminous diffuser at the rear whose lateral segments reference the motif of the air inlets.

R8 for the day? Audi may have the answer

2017 Audi R8 Red

Audi today introduced Audi on demand, an innovative mobility program that gives customers a new way to experience the Audi brand and its range of vehicles at the touch of a button. With Audi on demand, customers can reserve an Audi by the day for up to 28 days.  The premium service is currently available in San Francisco as part of a beta program and will be rolled out across additional U.S. cities in the coming years.

What that means in practice is that you could find yourself a little bored one day, decide it would be fun to hit the hills or coast roads in a fancy new automobile, click the button on your Audi mobility app, and as if by magic, a shopkeeper R8 appears.

From the official press release:

Audi on demand gives customers access to a wide range of the Audi vehicle lineup, from the Audi A4 sedan to Audi R8 supercar. Via the Audi on demand app – currently available for download in the Apple App store – customers select their preferred Audi model. It is then personally delivered to them at the location of their choice by an Audi on demand concierge, who will help the customer get acquainted with the vehicle, from setting music preferences to tailoring the navigation system. Customers are able to lock and unlock their vehicle, as well as enable driving via the Audi on demand app or via a personal key card. No membership fee is required.  Additionally, the vehicle the customer sees and requests in the Audi on demand app will be the same vehicle delivered to them – down to the exact color and trim.

If there’s anyone out in San Fran that wants to give this a try and let the rest of the world know who it worked out for me, please leave a note in the comments!

And after a little research, it looks like the R8 will set you back $1195 per day (or add an extra $90 for the wind in your hair convertible version). It looks like the other models might be a little more affordable – an A8L coming in for $425 and perhaps the bargain of the bunch an S7 for $385. At the low end, you can have your Allroad for only $165 (but A5’s 6’s, Q5’s and an RS5 are also available.

Audi R8 Competition Announced

Audi R8 Competition Audi this week announced plans to release the latest iteration of the R8, specifically focused at the driving enthusiast – the R8 Competition.

282897_34_Heck_IIThe high-performance R8 competition features a 570hp 5.2L V10 mated exclusively to a seven-speed S tronic and a sport exhaust system with black high-gloss tailpipes. This combination results in a 0-60 mph time of 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 199 mph, making it the fastest R8 ever offered.

282920_interior“The limited-edition Audi R8 competition is the closest road car to our R8 LMS ultra race car that has won virtually every race around the world,” said Scott Keogh, President, Audi of America. “It is designed for the driving enthusiast and we’re excited to bring 60 units as a limited-edition to the U.S.”

Audi S3 Convertible

Audi S3 ConvertibleI’ve always admired the Audi convertibles – the S4 and S5 always seemed to look just right in a way the BMW equivalents never quite managed. Adding to their repetoire is now the S3 Convertible, about the be officially released at the Geneva Motor Show.

Audi S3 Convertible front side

Using a tuned 2.0 TSFI engine pushing out 300 bhp’s and 280 lb/ft of torque (or in typical German fashion, the note from Audi actually said 280.27), it retains the sporty S3 suspension.

Audi S3 Convertible Rear

The open-top four-seater has a soft top with an electrohydraulic drive. Magnesium, aluminum and high-strength steel keep its weight low and a highly insulating foam layer in the roof reduces the noise level in the interior. The top is available in three colors and it opens or closes in 18 seconds, even while driving at speeds up to 30mph. An active rollover system protects passengers in the event of an accident, but hopefully you won’t find out how it works.

Audi S3 Convertible Interior

Given it’s an Audi, all-wheel drive is standard, as is the 6 speed S Tronic transmission that goes with it. It looks like there will be no manual option for this car, although there is a launch control function so you can win the all important traffic light race. Not sure on release date for the US yet (or I guess the confirmation that it’s going to make it over here even), but you can buy one for about 50,000 euros in Germany this summer.

New Audi SuperBowl Ad

In advance of the Superbowl this weekend (Go Broncos!!), Audi has released their ad that will be officially aired just after halftime for your enjoyment.

The History of Quattro

Drive have started off the New Year with a bunch of good stuff, one of my personal favorites being the first in the series of the History of Quattro. Take a look (and like I always say, if you only subscribe to one channel on YouTube, this should be it, although you should subscribe to two and include EvoTV as well 😉
